Mark Chpt. 11: When Jesus enters Jerusalem (and Christian Zionism)🎧(54 mins)

The scriptural and social background Tom explores shows how subversive Jesus was. St. Mark’s careful structuring of the entry into Jerusalem, the Cleansing of the Temple and the Barren Fig Tree show how Jesus was fulfilling people’s hopes of the Messiah, but in the opposite way to their expectations. and how, in fulfilling scripture, he fundamentally challenged the established order. This way of reading and allowing expectations to be challenged contrasts with the fundamentalist reading exemplified by Christian Zionists who select parts of the Old Testament to justify the fulfilment of their point of view and their expectations.
